Denver International Airport was on a ground delay Thursday night, with more than 800 flights delayed or canceled as thunderstorms swept across the state.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop just before 5 p.m. for thunderstorms and all flights were grounded until 6:15 p.m.

There were 788 flight delays and 18 canceled flights as of 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to flight tracking data from FlightAware.

Flights are delayed by an average of 77 minutes, federal aviation officials said.

United Airlies delayed the most flights at 271, and 254 Southwest flights failed to leave the gate on time as of 6:40 p.m., according to FlightAware.

Other Thursday delays included 143 SkyWest flights and 45 Frontier flights.

SkyWest canceled the most flights on Thursday, removing 10 flights from its roster. United canceled six flights and Southwest canceled two flights.
